On March 9-11th, New Orleans YC will co-host the GYA Women’s PHRF Championship with SYC. The Championship will run concurrently with the LPWSA’s Fleur de Lis Regatta. Spinnaker fleet boats will be sailed with all female crews. The skipper and 50% of the crew must be members of a GYA club. They will attempt 2 races on Saturday as part of the Fleur de Lis and one additional race on Sunday to complete the 3 races required for the GYA Championship. Non-spinnaker fleet boats will require a female skipper and ½ of the crew be female. No club requirements. They will attempt 2 races on Saturday for the Fleur de Lis Regatta.
The event will start with a Happy Hour social at NOYC on Friday, March 9th. Participants are invited to stay for the Family Fish Fry that evening. All activities on Saturday will take place at NOYC and include breakfast, registration, post-race party and Fleur de Lis trophy presentations. On Sunday, breakfast will be available at NOYC and post-race gathering and GYA trophies will occur at SYC. If you are looking for crew/want to crew, check out the NOYC.org message boards. The Sugar Bowl Football Classic has been a part of the national sports scene for over 80 years, welcoming fans from around the country to the city of New Orleans each New Year’s season. However, there is another Sugar Bowl event which has been in existence for just as long, and within its own arena, it’s recognized as one of the premier national yachting events – the Sugar Bowl Regatta.
